J.E.B. STUART BED AND BREAKFAST

The porch of this fabulous home wraps completely around the entire house, & is bordered by beautiful flowers, flowerpots & antiques. The back deck is surrounded by roses, with a magnificent view of the Blue Ridge. You will enjoy sitting on the porch or deck, as you listen & watch the variety of birds, while drinking early morning coffee. You can also sit on the porch in the cool evening hours & watch the colorful sunset over the green pastures & mountains. In the colder months, you can sit by the warm cozy fire in the dining room & enjoy your morning while breakfast is being made.

There is a pond stocked with Catfish to catch & release. It's nestled amongst the 'shady grove' of white pine trees, at the bottom end of the farm pastures. You'll also enjoy the serenity of the sound of the stream as it flows by. Anywhere you look, the scenery at the J.E.B. Stuart B&B is just spectacular! Anywhere you go you'll have complete privacy too. You'll have the entire farm, porch, pond, & upstairs of the house to yourselves!

You'll also enjoy looking at a beautiful new barn full of very happy horses, & watch as they graze in the green pastures & gallop freely against the backdrop of the Blue Ridge!  If you are traveling with horses or just want to bring them along, feel free. Your horses will be pampered with their own 12x12 stall & green pastures to run & graze!

Inside the home, you'll find 6 fireplaces, all original wood, with granite facing & hearths. The floors downstairs are all oak, & upstairs you'll find original 1895' 'heart pine'. You'll also find an incredible view from every window in all directions. The entire upstairs will be yours when you visit the J.E.B. Stuart Bed & Breakfast, only accommodating 1 family at a time, so you'll be sure to have complete privacy & enjoy the whole place to yourselves. (There is a no smoking policy in the house, but you may smoke outside. I prefer no alcohol in the home upstairs, (for insurance reasons) but upon request you can be treated to a bottle of wine at no charge, from our local vineyards & sip by the fireplace downstairs or out on the porch, watching the sunset.)

Your stay will include the whole upstairs, consisting of 3 rooms: 'The J.E.B. Stuart Room' is the main bedroom, decorated in a 'civil war theme'. Photographs of J.E.B. Stuart & General Lee, along with various antiques are on display, to let you feel like you're back in the 1800's. The bed is an 1850's hand carved oak antique double bed, with beautiful white lace sheets, quilts, and pillows & a hand carved 1850's dresser & mirror to match. The original 1895' wood fireplace mantle is adorned with antique oil lamps & photos of J.E.B. Stuart & General Lee.

The granite hearth is decorated with cast iron fireplace tools, bellows & candles inside the 1895' hand made brick. The room also has central air & heat. The room has no TV, DVD etc. because it is decorated to look & be the 'real thing' from that era…where there was no TV!  (The owners will be glad to let you watch TV downstairs by one of the other 6 fireplaces if you want to watch the news, your favorite program or a movie. Wireless internet will soon be available, but is not at this moment.)

The adjoining bathroom is 15' x 18' with beautiful new tile floors, a Jacuzzi whirlpool bathtub & a candle-lit fireplace. This luxurious bathroom is decorated in a Victorian 'country craft' theme. (Travel sizes of shampoo, toothpaste, soap, mouthwash etc. are included in the bathroom, for your convenience.)

The third room is the 'Trails West Room' is for sitting, reading or eating. (Free snacks, drinks & treats will be provided.) It is decorated with Cowboys, Pioneers & Native American decor. It also features a fireplace. All 3 rooms have fireplaces, though they are filled with candles to light. The 3 fireplaces downstairs are (gas logs) & therefore the upstairs fireplaces cannot burn wood.

The morning breakfast has a menu of either: Pancakes & bacon, French toast & bacon, or Eggs & bacon. There is plenty of Coffee (decaf or regular) as well as hot chocolate or juice (orange or apple). You can let us know your menu request & breakfast will be served at the time you want it. We're flexible about that, because some are early risers, & some like to sleep in. You will be our only guest while you're here, so we can accommodate your needs & desires with no other interruptions. Breakfast is served in the beautiful dining room, by the gas fireplace, or out on the back deck, looking at the mountains & horses grazing in the distance, whatever you like.

Also included in your stay at the J.E.B. Stuart Bed & Breakfast is either one of the following: A one-hour horseback riding lesson or a chauffeured trip to Mabry Mill. The hour of horse riding will be a lesson, to be divided between the couple, & will take place in the riding ring. (I can't let you ride outside the ring for insurance purposes.)  Boomer, The Magnificent is a 17.2 hand American Saddle Bred & can be a handful, but I've taught many lessons on him. Peppermint Pally is my Palomino Saddle Bred, & I've taught many lessons on her as well. Your horse experience will be photographed too, so you'll have pictures to share of your horse riding fun in the Blue Ridge.

The cutest creature here at the farm is Baby Elvis, a 31-inch tall miniature horse, who is black, furry, fat & so cute…you'll want to take him home!

If you chose a trip to Mabry Mill, I will drive you there, (in my SUV) only 16 miles up beautiful Squirrel Spur rd, which leads to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I will also take you to Meadows Of Dan, which is a splendid town near Mabry Mill, full of shops, a candy factory & places of interest to buy crafts & antiques. Gift certificates are available too!

For your evening entertainment, the owner of the B&B, who is also a professional singer, will perform your favorite songs, if you wish. You can choose from having her play the guitar & have a porch pickin of Bluegrass, Country, Folk or Irish music; or you can request your favorite songs on the piano, inside by the fireplace! Take your pick.

We have a gift shop too, where you can purchase a variety of CD's recorded by the owner: 2 Bluegrass & 1 Irish CD, as well as hand crochet afghans, hand made by her right in the home! We also feature other antiques for sale & hand made crafts by local folks in the area. We're proud to now say we have handmade 'Period Dresses' on display, skillfully sewn my Mrs. Shirley Keene...a local seamstress. Mrs. Keene's
dresses are worn by the lovely ladies at the reenactment every October at the J.E.B. Stuart Birthplace!" View her work at www.jebstuart.com

We want you to have fond memories of your stay at the J.E.B. Stuart Bed & Breakfast, so in addition to everything else, we will provide you with a 'disposable camera' upon arriving, so you can take photos or have us photograph you enjoying your visit. You'll have photos of yourselves sitting on the porch, fishing, riding the horses, relaxing by the fire, going to Mabry Mill or posing in front of the 'Hollow Post Office' for fun!

We hope you'll visit us at our splendid B&B & have a great get away. Our goal is for our guest to have lots of fun, relaxing sleep, good food, and great music & experience the flowers, birds, animals & mountain views. We want you to really feel the 'vibe' of staying at such a historical Victorian setting. You'll feel like you're 'back in time', when things moved a much slower pace.
